The quantum gravity challenge
lecture given by Filip Strubbe, a physicist whose research spans several fields, including quantum foundations, quantum gravity, and nanoparticle microscopy.
This talk explores the current crisis in the search for a theory of quantum gravity, revisiting key developments of the past century, from the Einstein–Bohr debates to Bell’s theorem. It argues that deeply rooted assumptions at the foundations of quantum mechanics may be at the heart of the quantum gravity problem. By examining these foundational issues, new approaches can be developed that address them from the outset, opening a possible path towards unifying quantum physics and gravity. However, this path may require us to rethink some of our most basic ideas about space and time.
